As a minority institution, provision is also made for the admission of children irrespective of caste and creed — all are welcome in our school family.
The Teresian Carmelite Sisters are active across India and abroad through educational centres, orphanages, and other charitable and promotional works — carrying forward the spirit of St. Teresa of Avila in every endeavour.
St. Teresa of Avila, the heavenly patron of our school, was born on 28th March 1515 in Avila, Spain, Europe. Her parents were Don Alonso Cepeda and Dona Beatrice Ahumada, and she grew up alongside two sisters and nine brothers. Known historically as The Teacher of Prayer and the Doctor of the Church, Teresa was a woman of extraordinary grace, deep faith, and visionary leadership.
Teresa was a beautiful, highly intelligent, humorous, and dynamic girl whose affectionate nature easily won everyone's heart. At the age of 20, she joined the Carmelites, renouncing her family inheritance and surname to profess herself as the Spouse of Jesus under the name Sr. Teresa of Jesus. Powered by God's love, she later undertook a great spiritual reform among the Carmelite lines for both women and men.
Her followers in the convents and monasteries lived a life of strict discipline, penance, and fasting — their singular desire being to love God and serve His people completely. Blessed with immense divine wisdom, she authored several books outlining how to become intimate friends of God.
After executing many good works throughout Spain, she departed this life at the age of 67 on 4th October 1582. Revered timelessly as a mystic and Doctor of Prayer, her legacy of courage, joyful perseverance, and true spiritual devotion continues to guide and inspire the entire academic community of St. Teresa's School, Berhampore.
